After pioneering her way through the lakes and fields of Iowa, Dr. Gwendolyn Carter
earned her Bachelor of Arts in General Science: Biology from Grinnell College. She
then returned to the warmth of the south and began doing research at the University
of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.
She describes her graduate work as “like an Exodus plague,” where she worked with
everything from flies and frogs to full humans, culminating in a Ph.D. in Neurobiology.
Her work during her postdoctoral fellowship and a short teaching stint at Hendrix
College has led to a growing list of publications and partnerships.
She is excited about her transition to full-time teaching. She noted, “I like that
NPC is a teaching focused college. I will be able to focus on student success versus
trying to maintain a time-draining research program that takes away from the priority
of teaching.” She believes helping others achieve their dream is like planting a seed
toward her own dreams. She especially enjoys sharing the information she learns to
help others have a smoother path to their goal.
Gwendolyn said she is already enjoying her experience on campus, stating, “Everyone has been so helpful with my transition to campus, and I can already sense the strong community at NPC.”
She enjoys hiking, photography, cooking, traveling, painting, and reading mystery novels.
